Caesars Assasination

It was March 15th when Julius Caesar got assassinated going to the senate house. That previous evening his wife Calpurnia had a dream to this same effect but despite this Caesar chose to go. Along with his wife’s advice to stay home Caesar had also been warned by the soothsayer of the Ides of March. However despite this on the Ides of March Caesar was stabbed by the conspirators Cassius, Casca, Decius, Cinna, Metullus, and even Caesars close friend Brutus. Caesar fell after being stabbed last by Brutus, where he said, “Et tu, Brute.” Mean while Caesars loyal follower Antony has left. The conspirators then smeared their arms with Caesars blood. Antony returned and states that he too would like to die now because it would be an honor to be killed by the men who killed Caesar, at the same time with the same weapons. They do not kill Antony but it is decided that Caesar would have a funeral where Brutus would speak explaining the conspirators reasons for killing Caesar, and Antony would also be allowed to give his speech. However nobody knows how the citizens will take the news of Caesars tragic death.

Act Two Questions

1. I side with neither the conspiratirs or Caesar. I think that the conspirators do not need to go to such an extreme measures as to kill him but Caesar doesn't need to obtain so much power.
3. With the details from Act Two I can now see that Caesar has to much confidence and is to sure of himself for his own good.
4. I think that Brutus would be a better replacement as leader than Cassius. Brutus doesn't rush into things, but thinks things over. While Cassius rushes into his actions and makes hasty decisions.
5. Caesar at first listens to Calpurnia and decides to stay home but is later persuaded by the conspirators to leave. However Brutus lies to Poria, and it takes a lot to convince him to talk to her.
6. In Act Two Scene Four Portia is concerned and worried about Brutus. She is also stressed and feels that the conspirators are wrong and she needs to do something about it. She then sends the servent to find out what is going on.
9. If I was Portia I would tell Brutus to think carefully about what he is about to do, and think about whats going to happen with Caesar gone.

Act II Scene 1

In Act two scene 1 Brutus continues to contemplate whether or not to live under Caesars reign or to help Cassius kill him. This situation makes it so Brutus can't sleep. Brutus then receives a letter pushing towards Brutus helping Cassius. Brutus however doesn't know that the letter is really from Cassius. Then a little while later Cassius and the conspirators arrive at Brutus's house. Together they discuss whether or not to just kill Caesar or to kill Mark Antony also. Brutus however tell the conspirators that they are not butchers and Antony is nothing without Caesar. Then together they all make a plan to kill Caesar that day. After the conspirators leave Portia arrives and tries to get Brutus to tell her what is wrong but he pushes it off just telling her that he is sick. Eventally after Portia's persistency Brutus decides to tell him what is going on. Later Caius arrives who has been sick.

pg 713 Questions

1. Cassius- deceiving
 Brutus- Gullible
 Casca- traitor
Antony- loyal
Caesar- powerful

2. The tribunes and commoners attitudes towards each other was unfriendly. The tribunes didn't like how the commoners were praising Caesar.
3. Caesar is observant and notices that Cassius is not trustworthy and is plotting something.
4. I think Cassius wants Brutus to join the conspirators because Brutus is close to Caesar and then he would have a inside man.
5. I think that the most important character so far is Cassius who is plotting to kill Caesar.
6. I found the humor of them playing with the word all. They used awl (a shoemakers tool) and all. I think Shakespeare added this humor to present the problem of Caesars power in a humorous way.
9. I think Caesar wouldn't agree with democracy because whether he denys the crown or not he still believes in dictatorship and his own power

Julius Caesar Act 1 Scene 1+2

Julius Caesar Act 1 Scenes 1 +2 begins with people praising Caesar on his victory against Pompey. Marullus and Flavius tell the people to stop because they supported Pompey. In Scene 2 it is the feast of Lupercus and Antony Caesars friend is going to run in the race. Caesar tells Antony to touch his Calpurnia his infertile wife because a saying is that when an infertile woman is touched by the winner of the race she becomes fertile. Then Brutus and Cassius have a conversation about Caesar. Cassius flatters Brutus by telling him he would be just as great as Caesar, trying to convince Brutus to help kill Caesar. However Brutus does not give in. Casca comes over to Cassius and Brutus. Brutus questions why he heard shouting. Casca tells Brutus and Cassius that the common people tried to crown Caesar not once but three times but all three times he refuse. Caesar however is aware that Cassius is not to be trusted. Cassius develops a plan to convince Brutus that something needs to be done about Caesars increasing power.

William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare was born in 1564, in Stratford and was baptized at The Church of the Holy Trinity. He was a poet and playwright. When he was 16 he attended the guild house school, and this is where he got his first taste of theatre. When he was 18 he married Anne Hathaway and had a girl named Susan followed by twins. He then left for London to start his career. Here he had a career as a writer, actor, and owned part of a playing company. His plays were being performed on the stage by 1592.
It is unsure what company used Shakespeare’s plays in his earlier life but most of his plays were performed by his own company. Shakespeare’s best known plays Hamlet, Othello, and King Lear however were produced in the Globe Theater. Some of the actors in Shakespeare’s company were Richard Burbage, William Kempe, Henry Condell and John Heminges. They appeared in more than one of his plays. He also wrote Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer’s Night Dream. Shakespeare also wrote sonnets, which were the last of Shakespeare’s works to be printed. Shakespeare died in 1616 in Stratford.

Should Student's have to wear uniforms?

Should you be able to express yourself freely? Wear what you want to wear? To school? These controversial questions have been debated for a long time by school administrators, parents, teachers, and students. Wearing what you want to school without the restriction of uniforms gives students a way to express themselves and make your own choices.

Wearing school uniforms restricts the ability to express yourself. With uniforms everybody looks the same and you aren’t allowed to show who you are through what you wear. For some people wearing particular clothes and dressing a certain way communicates a part of them. Uniforms also limit the ability to make choices. Making choices is a process that we face throughout our whole lives. If our ability to make choices is restricted in high school, how will our skills for making choices be effected in life after high school? Without uniforms, many people can see diversity between people and understand better that person and who they are. In some cases uniforms can restrict expression of religious beliefs.

Many people may also argue that uniforms defy the first amendment. The first amendment of the US Constitution states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. This guarantees certain freedoms including the freedom of expression. For example in the Pyle v. South Hadley School Committee Jonathan and Jeffery Pyle sued the South Hadley High School Principal, superintendant and school committee for violation of their first amendment. The two boys were accused of wearing t-shirts that went against the dress code. This resulted in South Hadley coming up with a new formal dress code.

However, along with the overwhelming evidence that students should not have to wear uniforms, some support good reasons for school uniforms as well. It is said that in some cases behavior improves when school uniforms are mandatory. Some people believe it helps reduce the threat of violence. This all ties to the fact that with uniforms students may be less distracted than without uniforms.

Research shows that wearing uniforms can help some schools and have no effect on others. In her article, “Parents: Do School Uniforms Make a Difference?” Pauline Wallin, PhD noted that when principals, teachers, and parents were asked whether they believed that school uniforms made a positive difference, they often answered that their school's attendance, behavior, and achievement had improved. However, when researchers looked at school attendance, number of fights, and discipline referrals, the results were inconclusive. In some schools, there were improvements, but in others, it was the same or worse. Nevertheless despite, many parents, and school officials claims that uniforms make a difference there is insufficient evidence to require uniforms. On the other hand freedom of expression and students ability to practice making choices as simple as what should I wear to school today are important opportunities to help develop young people into to responsible adults.

Martin Luther King Jr. Biography

Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929. As a young boy he lived in elegance and comfort. When he was young he was part of a gang and chased after many different ladies. He attended Crozer Seminary in the North. He lived in a new world of ideas unlike that in the South. He had a girlfriend but he was unable to marry her because mixed marriages could be fatal. People tended to degrade black people. Later on King married Coretta Scott. They then moved to Montgomery, Alabama where King became the pastor at Dexter Avenue Parish. MLK was a radiant speaker and captured his audience. Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott became involved in the Montgomery Bus Boycott and MLK soon took a leadership role. Meetings were held at his church and people tried to use coercion to make MLK leave, he began to receive up to fifty threats a day.

The Montgomery Bus Boycott was considered a success because in 1956 the Montgomery Buses became integrated. Martin Luther King traveled around the country and saw that segregation remained. Traveling he gave a speech “Stride for Freedom.” At one point during his traveling he was traveled like a black women but it turns out that she was just insane. However this reminded MLK of the dangers that threatened him every day. He tried to continue to apply the lessons of the Montgomery boycott to the rest of the south. MLK came across black students that tried to order lunch from a white lunch counter. He coherently decided despite prior warnings to help the students. The perpetuation of his goal to end segregation helped continue in his efforts.  Here he got arrested and thrown into jail, where he was moved to solitary confinement where he was devoid. JFK was running for president and trying to get blacks votes, helped release Martin Luther King from jail. From this JFK was elected president.

JFK and MLK were weary allies but had many similarities. JFK never demonstrated any oppression towards King. MLK decided to make his stand in the most segregated city of the time, Birmingham. Here he met non- violence with brute force. Martin Luther King was a militant person but believed in non- violent protest. Birmingham police chief was determined to keep Birmingham segregated. He then had his March on Washington when he gave his famous speech, “I Have a Dream.” After this Kennedy and Hoover put MLK under wire tap where they discovered the King had many mistresses. They were going to expose King. Many people exalted King and this would have a negative effect. After this Martin Luther King had a meeting with Hoover.

Montgomery Bus Boycott News Article

On December 1,  the Montgomery Bus Boycott began, when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white man. The blacks have decided they are tired and feel the time has come to boycott the buses. There was a mass meeting at the Holy Street Baptist Church. It was agreed that on Monday, December 5 all blacks were going to boycott riding the buses to work, to town, to school, and any other place. Today as you looked at the buses passed by they were empty. The usually overflowing buses were empty with the occasional person or two. The sidewalks are crowded with tons of men and women walking to work and school. A huge influential person that participated in this whole boycott was Martin Luther King Jr. On this day it was said that you could see him riding around with Ralph Abernathy with a smile on there face from the success of the boycott.

Girls and Women in Sport: Playing, Believing, and Achieving

"Playing, Believing, and Achieving" is all part of playing sports. At Provincetown High School playing is something that everybody gets the chance to do. I started playing sports when I entered as a seventh grader. I started right away Varsity Soccer and JV Basketball. My eighth year I played Varsity Soccer, Varsity Basketball, and Varsity Softball. Since then I have continued to play all these sports.

Usually,Playing sports isn't a right but a privilege, but having the opportunity to play is always present at Provincetown High School. Believing however is something that you yourself have to achieve. For me that was challenged often. With small numbers of players, there was never any second team on the bench waiting to be put in, therefore believing was something that had to happen. At Provincetown there are only 30 kids grades 10-12. This gives us the numbers of 13 for soccer, 8 for basketball, and just enough for softball. Believing that we could win when we were down, Believing that our shots were going to go in, or that we were going to hit the ball just far enough.

Achieving, however is a team effort. Personally, I can become the best I can be but in the end in all three of my sports it’s all about the team. As  Coach Manley says, "We're not just a team; were a family." This statement is completely true, together you win, together you lose, and this is why we achieve together. For me to achieve my goal of succeeding as a team, I have to first improve myself.

Playing, believing, and achieving are all part of my sports life, and succeeding in a game. Over the past four years, there was one constant thing in my life that made me be able to keep playing, believing and achieving and that was my coach, Coach Manley. He always encouraged, taught me, and made me a better athlete and person all together.

My Place

When I was little my parents used to leave me to spend the day with my Grampa Jerry. These were the good days, the days I looked forward to every time my parents went away. These days always consisted of one major element, the outdoors. No matter what we did we always did it outside.

My favorite however was by far going to Beech Forest. While many people could say that Beech Forest is a lovely place, a serene place, to me it was even more. It was a place where you could walk in quiet, feel the breeze through your hair, the sun poking through the trees on to you below, and so much more. Every time was the same but different. While the place was the same, and the routine was the same, there was always something new to be observed.

We'd drive up and park Grampa's Dodge Dakota in the parking lot and begin our walk, always starting on the left side. We’d begin walking slowly, in no hurry, just enjoying being outdoors. We'd stop at the trail leading to the dock over the pond and head down there to see if we could see any frogs. Next we'd walk along till we came to the opening. This was the sign that we were almost there. There being the tree in which we fed the birds. We’d get ready for feeding the Chick a Dees by crushing the peanut butter crackers in our hands. We'd walk slowly over to the tree, whose branch stretched out far to the right, at the perfect level to rest our arms. Lying are arms across the thick branch we'd wait, quietly, listening for the noises of the Chick a Dees. Soon we'd her chick a dee dee dee, chick a dee dee dee, the call of the bird. Soon enough we would see them hiding on the branches, checking there surroundings, taking in any threats. Then they shutter their wings and fly over landing  gently on our hands. There claws digging softly into the cold palms of my hands. While my siblings Emma, Natalie, and Patrick always shied away when the Chick a Dees went to land i never did. My grampa said i had a knack for that. From then on he called me "The Bird Lady." This place, the place where I felt at home, the place I always looked forward to going, this was the place where my greatest memories formed.

Technology

http://asia.cnet.com/cnet/i/r/2008/pg/62045986/sc008.jpg

Technology as a whole has many pros and cons. Ipods have increased are ability to do certain things such as listen to music wherever and whenever. Some Ipods allow you to access the internet and therefore being a new means of communication. However Ipods also have their down side. Having an ipod eliminates the need for a radio. With the growing number of Ipods radio stations are becoming more and more limited and this is bad for advertising. Without children listening to the radio they cannot advertise towards them. However it is also a good thing that children aren’t being subjected to these advertisements. It is also argued that the music quality on an Ipod is not as good as it was before. Ipods are one of the many technologies that have many pros and cons.

pg 101 # 8

Bradbury's science fiction stories have been termed "warning fictions." In Ray Bradbury's story "There Will Come Soft Rain" there is one house left after a nuclear explosion. Ray Bradbury says in the story that "The house stood alone in a city of rubble and ashes. At night the city gave off a radioactive glow which could be seen for miles." In the story, there are now no humans left and everything was destroyed by the nuclear bomb.

Bradbury is giving a warning to the future generation that we need to be careful how far we take our power. We have the power to destroy cities and and whole civilizations and we need to be careful how we use this technology and how far we make advances in this technology. If we keep making more and more powerful bombs then we will be able to destory larger parts of the world and wipe out more people. This is why we need to be careful about how far we go. This is what  Ray Bradbury is trying to warn in the story "There Will Come Soft Rain."

1950's

The 1950's was the period after World War Two, which ended when we bombed Japan. The 1950's was a time for beehive hair dew's and Elvis Presley. America was now once again seen as "The land of opportunity." The economy was booming, farmers prospered, and the use of electronics and appliances grew. It was a time of the rise of the middle class.

When the men returned back from the war the women returned back to their duty's in the house. The women were seen as caretaker of the house and children, while the men were suppose to bring home the "bread and butter." The women who continued to work got paid less than men. In the 1950's the G.I. bill was introduced. It helped lower education fees, help with affordable housing, and provide loans. During WWII African Americans fought side by side with whites and they finally felt more integrated. When they returned home it was not the same. There was less racism in the military then there was at home.

The 1950's also brought a change in education. A college education was now for everyone not just the intellectuals. President Truman came up with the fair deal. Part of the fair deal was the creation of a civil rights committee.

The next phase of the 1950's was the rise of the suburbs. Many model houses were being created, these were considered "cookie cutter houses." They were considered cookie cutter houses because they were all the same. People said that they found their American dream. Americans began to marry faster, younger and had tons of kids. People began to spend most their time watching television, especially game shows. The 1950's was a time for improvement and changes.

"There Will Come Soft Rains"

I believe that the technologies in “There Will Come Soft Rains” by Ray Bradbury can have both a positive effect and a negative effect on people and life. Technologies are meant to help increase society, and to improve life from day to day. Technology is meant to make everything easier, organized, and simpler.
In the story, the voice clock is a technology that has a positive effect on human life. It helps people keep on schedule and be organized. Also there are many other positive pieces of technology present in the story. There is the breakfast stove, the aluminum scrap wedge, the tiny cleaning robot mice, automatic garden sprinklers, automatic windows/garage, voice activated doors, automatic bathtub, and a pre-warmed bed. While all these technologies’ help people and can make life simpler they can also have a negative effect.
These technologies can keep people from becoming educated in certain areas because they have a machine or piece of technology to do it for them.  For example “In the kitchen the breakfast stove gave a hissing sigh and ejected from its warm interior eight pieces of perfectly browned toast, eight eggs Sunnyside up, sixteen slices of bacon, two coffees, and two cool glasses of milk.” This “breakfast stove” made it so people didn’t have to learn how to cook. This means that all the education that goes along with cooking such as math was also not present. Also many of these technologies created a set schedule and allowed for no change. For example, in the story it says “Five o’clock. The bath filled with clear hot water.” An automated bath tub filling at the same time everyday makes it so that every day is the same and there’s no room for any change. IF the people changed their routine then the tub would fill and nobody would be there to take a tub.

In conclusion, Technologies can be positive and improve people and their lives but also have their negative aspect. We need to be aware of the difference between technologies that are helping or that are worsening us as people.

"The Thrill of the Grass"

"Summer without baseball: a disruption to the psyche."

"An unexplainable aimlessness engulfs me."

"We will sit in our regular seats, scattered like popcorn throughout the stadium, and we'll nod as we pass on the way to the exits, exchange secret smiles, proud as new fathers."

2080

Its 2080, the days beginning just like every other one. My IRoom wakes me up at 7:00 to get ready for school. I open my eyes and grumble; grabbing my IPad I pick out the clothes I’m going to wear for the day. I walk over to my closet, the doors open and there are my clothes I picked out waiting for me. I then tell my room to play a song while I get dressed.  After listening to music and getting dressed, I leave my room and travel into the bathroom. I brush my teeth, and straighten my hair simply by applying straitening gel. Gone are the days when it takes twenty minutes to straighten my hair. I wash off my face an apply any makeup I feel like wearing. When I’m all ready for school I travel back to my room where the door scans my face acknowledging that it’s me, it lets me in. I then walk over to the small elevator and travel down to the kitchen. I then grab the IPad hooked up to the kitchen and enter in what I want for breakfast. While I wait I pack my bag for school and basketball. When my foods ready I walk over and pick it up and eat. When I’m done I grab my bags and head to the garage. I then jump in my hover car and drive to school.

At school I walk in and take out my school IPad, checking my schedule, and locating which class I have first. I then walk over to the door that corresponds with the letter my class has next to it. Most mornings I have Future Technologies studies first which is letter C. Walking over to door C I enter and I am beamed instantly to my class. I enter into my class where the other fourteen kids are beginning to gather. At Provincetown High School fifteen kids per class is a normal size. Back in 2013, Provincetown closed its high school and obtained only an elementary school, but in 2050 Provincetown, Truro, and Wellfleet broke off from the rest of Cape Cod and became their own island. Being an island Provincetown reopened our high school. Being an island our numbers remained small but manageable.  After Technology I travel to Advanced Math, and then English. After English I have science followed by lunch. At lunch everybody submits there lunch order through their IPad from a list of five choices. After eating we finish the day with the last two classes of the day.

After school, I have either a soccer game or practice. Today I have a game at Mashpee. The whole team and I pile into the hover bus and begin are journey there. When Provincetown became an island, after a big hurricane, the issue of tourism came up. Over time Provincetoown, Truro, and Wellfleet had began to break off more and more but the hurricane finally completly separated them. While Provincetown is greatly supported by tourism now being an island made it a bit more difficult. That’s when the town decided to build a bridge. The bridge connects the island to the main shore. Upon reaching Mashpee we all change and play the soccer game. The game has remained the same; same rules, same calls, and same objective. Upon finishing the game we shower, change and head back to the hover bus. The hover bus begins to take us home. On our way home we stop in the Mashpee commons and get Chinese food. This Chinese food is a special treat only because our bus driver is PB. After eating we finish the journey back to Provincetown.

Reaching home I jump in my hover car and head straight home. When I get home I head for the elevator which scans my finger and takes me straight to my bedroom. I put on my PJ’s and head back downstairs to watch TV. I turn the TV on using my IPad and flick through the channels trying to find something entertaining to watch. After an hour or so of TV, I head back to my room where I lay in my bed and begin my homework. I type up my English paper, finish the math worksheet, and study history all on my IPad. While doing my math worksheet, I get stuck on a math problem I simply ask my room.  Following the completion of my homework I pull out my cell phone where I check my Facebook and my email. Next, I play a few game while I text with my friends and then I tell my room to shut off my lights. This completes my day, ending in a good night sleep. The next morning my IRoom wakes me up again and the whole cycle begins again. My life is not complicated and very easy because of all the advances in technology and the great knowledge that is present in today’s society.
